Tom Farrell, a Navy lieutenant, encounters Susan Atwell, a young woman with whom he has a romantic fling. Then Farrell learns that his boss, Defense Secretary David Brice, is romantically involved with Atwell as well. Farrell is assigned to the homicide case after the young woman is discovered dead. He starts to discover disturbing facts about the crime, but as details about his encounter with Susan come to light, he becomes a suspect himself.
