Nickie Ferrante’s return to New York to wed a wealthy heiress has been widely reported, as have his other misdeeds and affairs. Terry McKay, a lounge performer, is already on her way home to her former boyfriend when he sees her. She sees him as yet another playboy, and he sees her as cold, but after a few days together, they realize they’ve fallen in love. Since Nickie has never served in his life, they plan to meet again in six months atop the Empire State House. This would provide them time to work on their current relationships, as well as allow Nickie to see how he can really make a living. He picks up painting again and has some results. Nickie is eagerly waiting for Terry, who is rushing to catch up with him, on the agreed-upon deadline. However, destiny intervenes, causing miscommunication and heartbreak, and only fate can save their love.
