Overview
In the 1930s on the Arabian Peninsula, two warring leaders meet face to face. The triumphant Nesib, Emir of Hobeika, offers rival Amar, Sultan of Salmaah, peace terms. The two men conclude that none should lay claim to the Yellow Belt, a no-man’s-land between them. As a guarantee against invasion, Nesib adopts Amar’s two sons, Saleeh and Auda. Saleeh and Auda have matured into young men after twelve years. Saleeh, the hunter, yearns to break free from his gilded confinement and return to his father’s homeland. Auda is only interested in books and learning new things. An American from Texas pays a visit to their adoptive father Nesib one day. He informs the Emir that his country is abundant in oil and offers him wealth beyond his wildest dreams. Nesib envisions a realm of limitless possibilities, a kingdom where the black gold under the desert sand pays for bridges, colleges, and hospitals. There’s just one problem. The Yellow Belt is where the valuable oil is found.
