Selma, a Czech immigrant on the brink of blindness, is unable to make ends meet for herself and her son, who has acquired the same genetic condition and will die unless a costly procedure is performed. Selma learns to cope as life becomes too tough with her appreciation of musicals, avoiding life’s problems – if just for a moment – by making up little numbers to the rhythmic rhythms of her surroundings.
