Roman Strauss was hanged in 1949 for the savage assassination of his wife Margaret with a pair of scissors. A deaf amnesiac woman turns up at an orphanage in 1990s Los Angeles, and private eye Mike Church is called in to investigate. Both the woman and Church seem to have a strange connection to the Strauss murder as they are hypnotized.
