The more things evolve, the less we are alike.
Filmmaker Ralph Arlyck first encountered Sean while staying in Haight Ashbury as a college student in the 1960s. The area was overrun with the snares of the US cultural movement, the San Francisco State University campus was crowded with police in riot gear, the Haight was full of drifters and idealists, and a storm apartment on the third floor of Arlyck’s home. The precocious 4-year-old Sean often walked downstairs to visit and chat from this top floor group, and one day Arlyck switched on his video. Sean made his casual commentary on everything from smoking pots to speed freaks in the iconic 15-minute movie in simple honesty. This First Kid of the infamous decade may have shook the crowd by his simple phrase, “”Sure, I smoke marijuana,”” but it was his naked impishness that embody the optimism which lies ahead of the country.
