A man and woman became trapped in the wilds of Africa during a 19th-century shipping accident. In their tree house, the lady becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby. Soon after, a family of apes stumbles into the building, and both parents are killed in the resulting confusion. A female ape adopts the tiny boy and raises him as her son in place of her own dead child. Captain Phillippe D’Arnot discovers the guy who believes he is an ape twenty years old. Since evidence in the tree house causes him to conclude he is a direct descendant of the Earl of Greystoke, he decides to get the guy back to civilization.
