Kit Kittredge is nine years old when her father fails his company and has to look for jobs during the Great Depression. Kit is played by Oscar candidate Abigail Breslin, who leads a stellar ensemble in the first-ever “”American Girl”” cinematic film. Kit and her mother must take in boarders – paid house visitors – in order to preserve their property. These guests turn out to be interesting storytellers. Kit’s latest hobo pal May is the main suspect as mother’s lockbox holding all of their money is robbed. Kit refuses to accept Will can cheat, and her attempts to uncover the truth land her and her friends in serious trouble. The burglary, according to the investigators, was an internal operation carried out by somebody they trust. So, if it wasn’t Will, who was the perpetrator?
