The sheriff of a small town in southwest Texas is tasked with keeping a killer in jail while his brother, a wealthy rancher, tries to help him flee. He and his deputies – a disgraced alcoholic and a cantankerous elderly cripple – must find a way to hold out against the rancher’s hired guns before the marshal returns after a comrade is killed attempting to rally help for him. Meanwhile, the arrival of a teenage gunslinger – and a curious beauty who arrived on the last stagecoach – has changed things.
