Lina McLaidlaw, a wealthy and sheltered woman, is swept off her feet by charming ne’er-do-well Johnnie Aysgarth. Lina marries Johnnie after being alerted that he is nothing more than a treasure seeker, and she stays obedient to her reckless husband as he plows his way into one shady business plan after another. Lina gradually realizes that Johnnie is planning to murder her in order to claim her inheritance. When Johnnie’s business associate disappears under suspicious conditions, the hypothesis appears to be proven.
