Cable Hogue, who has been double-crossed and left without water in the desert, is rescued when he discovers a spring. It’s in the ideal location for a much-needed rest stop on the nearby stagecoach route, which Hogue takes advantage of. He constructs a home and earns revenue from stagecoach travelers. Hildy, a prostitute from the nearby area, joins him in his apartment. Hogue had something going for him before the car comes along and puts an end to the stagecoach period.
