The quest for survival is coming to a close.
A Tantalus Base crew member claims he has discovered fossilized traces of bacterial existence on the final day of the first manned trip to Mars. He disobeys instructions to pack up and heads on an illegal expedition to gather further samples, refusing to let the relief team get all the glory. However, a simple dig transforms into a nightmare as the porous earth caves, trapping him in a deep crevice and putting his life in jeopardy. His bereaved coworkers make an effort to retrieve his corpse. When another vanishes, though, they begin to fear that the life-form they have found is in risk.
