Steve Zissou, a renowned oceanographer, has vowed revenge on the unusual shark that devoured a member of his team. He is accompanied on his boat by Ned, a man who thinks Zissou is his dad, and Jane, a journalist pregnant by a married man, in addition to his daily squad. They sail the seas, seeing pirates and, more traumatically, assorted characters from Zissou’s memory, including his former parent, Eleanor.
