A tale of two lovers

Tomas, a successful physician, leaves Prague for an operation, encounters Tereza, a young photographer, and takes her back with him. Tereza is taken aback when she learns that Tomas is already having an affair with the bohemian Sabina, but the three of them escape to Switzerland when the Soviets invade. Sabina starts an affair, Tom proceeds to womanize, and Tereza returns to Czechoslovakia, disgusted. Tomas realizes his error and continues to pursue her.
