Maria Altmann, an octogenarian Jewish exile, takes on the Austrian government in an attempt to reclaim a world-famous portrait of her aunt that was stolen by the Nazis after World War II and which she insists belongs to her ancestors. She did so not only to reclaim what was rightly hers, but also to seek a sort of revenge for the Nazis’ mass murders, degradation, and stealing of art.
