A disease spread by common cockroaches is killing children in Manhattan. Susan Tyler, an entomologist, produces a mutated species of insect that secretes a substance that kills the roaches in order to escape the plague. Susan discovers three years later that the mutant breed has persisted and mutated into a massive, grotesque beast that can replicate human form, despite the fact that it was designed to die after one century.
