Several adolescents in a tiny Colorado town devise a July 4th joke based on a terrifying legend that goes horribly wrong when one of their friends is inadvertently murdered; however, the teens promise to keep their presence hidden from the police, who are now looking for the guy who allegedly killed their comrade. A year later, when the July 4th festival approaches, the teens discover they’re being followed by someone who is obviously intent on putting an end to the dreadful legend by murdering them.
