Early eighteenth century. Jonathan Green, a cartographer, embarks on a research journey from Europe to the East. He arrives in a tiny village lost in impassable forests after passing through Transylvania and crossing the Carpathian Mountains. Only chance and thick fog may have brought him to this cursed place. The citizens who dwell here are unlike all other people the traveler has ever seen. The peasants, having dug a deep moat to protect themselves from the outside world, have a misguided illusion that they will save themselves from darkness, failing to realize that evil has found its home in their hearts and is waiting for a chance to erupt.
