When Charlie, a casino owner’s puppy, is killed by his competitor Carface, he considers himself in Heaven by default, for all dogs go to heaven. However, in order to avenge his murderer, he conns his way back to life, despite the fact that doing so would damn him to Hell. As he returns, he partners up with Itchy, an old acquaintance, to plan his revenge. He also meets an orphan girl who can communicate with animals, helping him to get insider information on the races and ensure his victories, which would help him fund his plans. However, he is also plagued with visions of what awaits him on the other hand unless he can show himself deserving of Heaven once more.
