Valiant is a forest pigeon who aspires to be a great hero one day, and the story is set in 1944. As he learns that the Royal Homing Pigeon Service is recruiting, he promptly travels to London. On the road, he encounters Bugsy, a smelly yet polite pigeon who follows him, mostly to avoid clients with whom he cheated in a game of find-the-pebble, and assists him in signing up for the fight.
