Wyatt Earp and his brothers Morgan and Virgil ride into Tombstone, leaving their cattle herd in the hands of their younger brother James. When they return, they discover their livestock has been robbed and James has died. Wyatt takes over as town marshal, appointing his brothers as deputies, and promises to remain in Tombstone until the murderers of James are apprehended. He quickly encounters Doc Holliday, who is brooding, coughing, and hard-drinking, as well as the sullen and nasty Clanton tribe. The scene is set for the Earps’ long-awaited vengeance as Wyatt finds the owner of a trinket taken from James’ dead body.
