The planet’s habitats survive now in massive pods connected to satellites in a futuristic Earth devoid of both flora and fauna. When the crew of the Valley Forge learns that the pods will be launched into orbit and dismantled so that the vehicles can be reused for industrial uses, they are overjoyed at the thought of returning home. Not so for botanist Freeman Lowell, who adores the forest and its inhabitants and decides to preserve them by taking things into his own hands.
