As Paul Benjamin leaves Auggie Wren’s cigarette store, he almost gets struck by a truck. Rashid Cole, a stranger, saves his life, and Paul, who is middle-aged, soon informs homeless Rashid that he will like a short-term housemate. Paul is moved by both Rashid’s quest to reconcile with his father and Auggie’s realization that a woman who may be his daughter is about to give birth, despite the fact that he is already devastated over his wife’s murder.
