The film centers on Ann Atwater, an ardent civil rights protester, and C.P. Ellis, a former Ku Klux Klan chief who reluctantly co-chaired a group conference in Durham, North Carolina during the racially tense summer of 1971, arguing over the desegregation of schools. Durham, as well as Atwater and Ellis’ lives, will be forever changed by the extraordinary incidents that transpired.
