The Boat That Rocked is an ensemble sitcom about a young couple in the 1960s who fall in love with pop music. It’s about a group of DJs who captivate Britain by performing music that represents a generation and rising up against a government who tried to dominate mass media via the BBC. Centered loosely on developments in the United Kingdom in the 1960s, when Harold Wilson’s Labour government decided to get pirate radio stations under regulation, leading to the passing of the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act on August 15, 1967. “”Pirate Radio”” is another name for it.
