As Napoleon Bonaparte grows to power in France, a feud between two French Army lieutenants, Armand and Gabriel, erupts over a perceived slight. They participate in a number of duels over the course of a decade, amidst greater wars such as the attempted French conquest of Russia in 1812 and changes in Europe’s political and social structures.
