Overview

Upstanding banker Andy Dufresne starts a new life at the Shawshank jail, where he puts his accounting skills to use with an amoral warden, after being falsely accused of the double murder of his wife and her boyfriend in the 1940s. Over his long stay in jail, the other prisoners, including an elderly convict named Red, come to respect Dufresne’s honesty and unquenchable sense of optimism.
