Overview
Isak Borg, a grumpy elderly professor, and his pregnant and depressed daughter-in-law, Marianne, fly from Stockholm to Lund, Sweden, to obtain an honorary degree from his alma mater. They meet a number of hitchhikers along the way, one of which leads the elderly doctor to reflect on the joys and shortcomings of his own life. The vivacious young Sara, who is a dead ringer for the doctor’s first love, is one of them.
