Admiral Frank Beardsley returns to New London to lead the Coast Guard Academy, his last stop before being promoted to the role of Chief of the Guard. He is a widower with eight daughters, and he is the captain of a caring yet strict ship, complete with charts and salutes. The children yearn for a permanent residence. Helen North is a wild spirit and a designer whose ten children reside in loving anarchy with community hugs every now and then. Helen and Frank, high school sweethearts, reunite at a reunion and fall in love again. They tie the knot on the spot. The issues begin when two groups of children, the free spirits and the disciplined preppies, are forced to live together. To finish the marriage, the feuding factions agree to work together.
