Overview
Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s iconic film explores the empirical theory that medieval witches suffered from the same paranoia as turn-of-the-century mental patients through a sequence of dramatic vignettes. But the movie isn’t serious at all; instead, it’s a witches’ brew of the terrifying, grotesque, and darkly funny.
