Bill Lee, a blank-faced bug killer, and his dead-eyed companion, Joan, enjoy getting high on Bill’s pesticides while hanging out with their Beat poet pals. Bill receives a centipede-derived medication after seeing the devilish Dr. Benway. He kills Joan by mistake, takes instructions from his typewriter-turned-cockroach, ends up in a continually mutating Mediterranean city, and discovers that his hip mates have released his novel, which he doesn’t recall writing.
